Meditation is one of the most widely used and recommended solution for stress management. Meditation helps to calm your mind. MRIs taken of people doing meditation shows that it calms their mind. But once you do your meditation and your mind becomes calm and you go out into the world for work, your family and other places and you encounter stressful situations then your stress returns, and you have to go through that cycle endlessly. So, meditation only helps you in managing stress. It does not help in eliminating your stress.
Let us see what happens in the body when you are stressed. Stress starts out as a fear in your head and once that happens your hypothalamus excretes hormones which initiate a chain reaction which ends in your adrenal glands excreting adrenaline and cortisol. Under the influence of adrenaline and cortisol bodily changes happens. your mind is preparing your body for fight or flight because it sees a dangerous situation. Your saliva flow decreases. Your peoples dilate. Your blood vessels constrict, and you experience chills and sweating. Your heart beats faster and harder. Quick and deep breathing occurs in lungs. Output of digestive enzymes decreases in your stomach. Food moment slows down in your bowels. Your muscles become more tense, and trembling can occur. Blood pressure increases in blood vessels as major vessels dilate. And prolonged exposure to stress will lead to major health issues. Some of the health-related issues of stress are weaker immune system, obesity diabetes and other diet related problems. Blood pressure and heart related problems. Cancer. And premature death in some cases.
This shows us that it is better to eliminate stress than managing it. Because if you are managing it, then there are times when you will feel stressed, and this will affect your health. The real problem is that you are fixing the symptoms and not the actual problem. What we have learned about stress so far is that it starts as a thought in your head. But we are not doing anything about stopping the thought in the head. We are concentrating on meditation which by definition is stress management not stress elimination. And because of this you will continue to have stress in your life, you will be in a hamster wheel of stress with no solution insight. You will be spending a lot of time money and effort to fix your health and personal and business issues moving on from one stress management solution to another.
